The rain has stopped for two days and the grass is finally dry enough to cut. BUT it is so long that the lawn tractor kept stalling. Lucas was not a happy camper today!

I went to Russell today on a delivery, and saw that the old Mother Teresa Elementary School is gone! We knew it was to be demolished sometime this summer. Both my kids went to this school and when they built the new Mother Teresa School next door, the children changed over to the new building. BUT what they thought was plenty of room, 3 years later, turned out to be not enough, and the old building was used for the extra gym space and for the Grade 2's. Last fall it was announced that they were going to put an addition on the new school and the old building would be flattened. RIP Mother Teresa Annex!

The Bee Balm (bergamot) is just beginning to bloom in our front flowerbed. This is the plant (leaves) that gives Earl Grey Tea it's distinctive flavour.

We had a jam packed day today! We started by taking the Metro to Arlington Cemetary. We saw JFK's gravesite and then moved on to the Lincoln Memorial. The first time I saw the huge statute of Lincoln, I was moved to tears. And again this time! Looking from the stairs of the Lincoln Memorial, you can see across the Reflecting Pool to the Washington Monument. We also visited the White House (post 9/11, this is as close as you can get) and the Vietnam Veteran's Wall and ended at the Capital Building. Then back to Arlington Cemetary and hopped on the subway back to our hotel. We ordered a pizza for dinner! My feet hurt more!

Rachel and I decided to go to the Museum of Natural History this morning while the guys went to the Museum of Crime and Punishment. We met up at lunch and toured the Space & Aviation Museum and the American History Museum. My feet hurt!

We're here! Our flight landed at 7.30AM and when we arrived at our hotel (The Renaissance M Street) just after 9AM, we were surprised to see that our rooms were available. We settled in and then headed out for a day of sightseeing! After breakfast, we're off to the International Spy Museum. And then the National Art Gallery. And a quick visit to the National Mall.
